Expeditions (noun) "A journey undertaken by a group of people with a definite objective" The American Heritage® Dictionary, Fourth Edition

We're all trying to reach our life goals by navigating the opportunities and challenges that confront us. Our Expedition groups enable people to connect with one another and make the trip together.

Expedition groups are small groups that meet regularly to share from God's Word, to fellowship, and to encourage one another. It's within these groups that sustained life change occurs, meaningful relationships are developed, and the church as community is realized. Choose a group that's right for you and get ready for a journey of a lifetime.

Love the Community - Our Strategy

Matthew 22:39: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus said that this is the second greatest commandment.

The Love the Community environment is where people take the next step of becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Community groups serve as the catalyst for this environment and as people enter into a community group they develop new friendships and also have a chance to mature in their understanding of God's word.

As people learn more about loving the community we encourage them to attend our Discovering Ministry class. This class teaches certain disciplines of the Christian faith and also helps believers discover how God wants to use their gifts and talents in reaching the world. This class serves as a catalyst to move people into the Reach the World environment.

Love Christ - Our Strategy

Matthew 22:37-38: Jesus replied, "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment."

The Love Christ environment is the Sunday morning worship service and it serves as the "front door" to Rock Springs Church. In this environment, we worship our God through praise and worship and the preaching of God's word. Through practical messages that relate to every day living and an appeal to enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, people, whether churched or unchurched, can learn what it means to truly love Christ.

Also within the Love Christ environment is Dinner with the Pastor. This dinner is for anyone who is interested in more information about Rock Springs Church or is interested in becoming a member. You will learn more about RSC's strategy, vision, and purpose, as well as getting to meet the staff and ask questions. Dinner with the Pastor serves as a catalyst to move people to the Love the Community environment

Welcome to Rock Springs Church - Welcome

We want to be the first to tell you that we are not the perfect church. RSC is a church full of real people that have real issues, but we are trying to live life God's way. Every week, Pastor Kent Shingleton shares a relevant, life-changing message that will help you throughout your week.

We understand that everyone's journey in life is different. We also believe that church should be a place where you receive friendships during your journey, rather than judgment or criticism. So, if you are looking for a place to continue your journey on this road called life, and in the process meet some new friends, then join us this weekend-we're just up the road.

God works miracles through those who obey, though often times our nature rebels against Him. Regardless of which path we choose-obedience or rebellion- God is the God of second chances. Few stories illustrate this principle more clearly than the story of Jonah. Join us as we delve into the story of one man and his journey towards surrender.

Karen Refugees - Missions

Who Are They?

In the country of Myanmar (also called Burma) in Southeast Asia, there is a people group called the Karen. They are a predominently Christian people group that are being harshly persecuted for their faith. They are driven from their homes and often spend the rest of their lives running from the government. Many are tortured and killed. Many others are in refugee camps in Thailand.

Several links are listed below, some of which have articles about the Karen and some of which show video-footage. (Some of the images on the videos are graphic.)

http://www.prayforburma.org/IDX/Resources/Video/

How can you help the Karen?

God has brought over 100 Karen families to Middle Tennessee. There are at least two congregations of Karen that meet in Smyrna for worship! Several Karen families live at Wherry Housing. God has led RSC to adopt one of the Karen families at Wherry (a family of 7 that moved to Smyrna straight from a Thai refugee camp) to help them in whatever way that is needed (provide food, learn English, learn to drive, etc).

OUR PURPOSE

The Children's Ministry team exists to provide children with a positive, safe and exciting environment so they can learn about God, know who He is and to partner with parents in helping raise their children in a Christ-centered home.

The Zone is Rock Springs Church Sunday morning ministry to children in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. The Zone kids begin the morning in small groups. The small groups are divided as follows:

Grades Kindergarten - 1st

Grades 2nd - 5th boys

Grades 2nd - 5th girls

The Zone Sunday schedule: The day in the Zone starts with a small group in which they get to know the day's topic. The children then move to a large group setting, with music and the Bible story/drama or skit, and then its back to the small group to focus on the lesson learned in the large group area.

Kids Klub - Kid's Klub

OUR PURPOSE

To help each child...

Know that Jesus loves them. They are a gift from God and will be handled with love and care.

Feel safe, loved, comfortable and happy.

Kids Klub is our children's ministry for kids ages birth through pre-kindergarten (age 5). Kids Klub consists of three classes, designed per age group with a slightly different Sunday morning structure. The ages are divided as follows:

1. Nursery

Ages birth to 18 months

It's a joy to have your child in our nursery! Our nursery strives to do more than provide a baby-sitting service. We believe it is possible to share the love of Christ with a child from the day of his or her birth.

We are proud of our nursery and the loving workers who serve faithfully. Our volunteers are men and women who desire to share the love of Jesus with our children. Your baby is a very special person to us!

Please know that we want to provide your child with the best care possible. Please help us by following the guidelines in this brochure. We feel they reflect the high standards of hygiene and efficiency that are necessary to maintain proper care for your little one.

2. Toddlers

Ages 19 months - 2 years

Toddler Sunday schedule: Children are exposed to short Bible stories, songs and dances to teach children about God in a short attention span environment.

3. Pre-School

Ages 3 -5 years (pre-k)

Preschool Sunday schedule: The preschool is a more structured setting than the toddler area with a Bible story, music and craft centered on a specific Bible lesson for that day. The preschool class often joins the Zone during their music time.

I am so glad that you have taken the time to check us out. Let me just say, as the leader of this group, my desire is to see you succeed in this world and to change the generation around you. In today's world, you are bombarded with media, violence, disaster, sex, and peer pressure; and the whole time, all you need is the truth. I hope that we can help you find the truth that you are looking for.

Ignite Student Ministry exists to provide a place for you to find genuine friendship, caring adults, intimate worship and a message that is aimed right at your heart that is relevant, real, and true. It is a place that you can come and be yourself. It is a place where we are real people, with real issues and we are all doing life together.

Please consider giving us a try. If for some reason it's not something for you, let us help you find something that is. We meet at 7:00 p.m. at The Alpha House on Tuesday nights. Check us out, I'll see you there.

Our commited volunteers look forward to getting to know you and your child as they share God's love for them and model His character. We also want to partner with you, as parents, in bringing up your children in a loving, Christian environment so that they can experience and really know who God is. We invite you to sit in on your child's classrooms and/or serve as a helper in one of the family ministry areas.

Reach the World - Our Strategy

Acts 1:8 "But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere--in Jerusalem, in Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."In the Bible, the church is referred to as the "body of Christ." When Jesus walked upon the face of the earth, he ministered to people's needs and helped them discover that true life came through a relationship with him. As He did this, Jesus also taught and trained twelve disciples that were given the charge of fulfilling the same type of ministry that Jesus offered. These disciples later became known as the leaders of the first church. God's brilliant strategy to reach the world involves Christians using their passions, gifts and talents to minister to this world in the same way that Jesus did. The "reach the world" environment serves as the catalyst for believers to go out into the world using the gifts and talents that God has gifted them with in order to accomplish the task of reaching the world for the sake of Jesus Christ. We encourage every believer to be in the process of becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ and our strategy is to help believers accomplish this task. Where are you in the process?

RSC's Strategy - Our Strategy

Matthew 28:18-20: Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

"Go and make disciples". How does that happen? At Rock Springs Church, our purpose is to develop fully devoted followers of Christ, or disciples. RSC has a three-fold process that represents three environments to help you become a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. These environments, in and of themselves, cannot make anybody a disciple of Jesus Christ. However, they provide the tools and atmosphere that the Holy Spirit can use to grow people into becoming fully devoted followers of Chirst.

Where are you in the process?

7 Checkpoints of
Ignite Student Ministry

#1- Authentic[Faith]
Principle: God can be trusted; he will do all He has promised to do.

Key[Verse]: Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

#2- Spiritual[Disciplines]
Principle: When you see as God sees, you will do as God says.

Key[Verse]: Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

#3- Moral[Boundaries]
Principles: Purity paves the way to intimacy.

Key[Verse]: 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8
3 It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; 6 and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. 8 Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

#4- Healthy[Friendships]
Principle: Your friends will determine the direction and quality of your life.

Key[Verse]:Proverbs 13:20
He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

#5- Wise[Choices]
Principle: Walk wisely

Key[Verse]: Ephesians 5:15-17
Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.

#6- Ultimate[Authority]
Principle: Maximum freedom is found under God's authority.

Key[Verse]:Romans 13:1-2
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

#7- Others[First]
Principle: Consider others before yourself.

Key[Verse]: Philipians 2:3-11
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

How to share your faith using the movie "Click" - Student-Evangelism

What if you had a universal remote that controlled your universe? The movie Click teases viewers with this impossible, but intriguing, idea. Michael Newman (Adam Sandler) portrays a workaholic architect whose life choices leave him with little time for his most important relationships. While shopping for a universal remote, Newman comes across a device that allows him to perform TV remote-type functions on his relationships and career. But with time the remote takes on an agenda of its own and overrules Newman's choices, further complicating his world.

While no one in their right mind thinks this kind of universal remote is looming in our future, in an odd, distorted sort of way Click may have stumbled onto a word picture that some people carry around about who God is and what He's like. Is God like an interested observer of the human drama - someone watching human lives unfold like a TV program, a glorified universal remote that somehow simultaneously exercises control over all human lives?

Or perhaps you know people who treat God as though He was their own personal cosmic butler - putting in an occasional quick request for His services and expecting Him to be at their beck and call. Or have you observed friends who behave as though God is a giant vending machine in the sky - putting in their currency (right beliefs, living a good life and saying a few quick prayers), making a selection and assuming He'll come through with the goods? These me-centered views of the God of the universe are an immense distortion of the holy, just, powerful, yet merciful God of the Bible.

In fact the Bible tells us some incredibly amazing things about who God is and what He's like - and this is a case where the truth may be stranger than fiction. While God is not like an all-powerful universal remote, a cosmic butler or a vending machine in the sky - He is the all-powerful, majestic God of the universe who passionately desires to have a personal relationship with each of us. His love for us is so immense that He sacrificed His Son in order to make a way for us to be restored to a full, life-giving relationship with God. Check out these verses that tell us over and over that our God is personal, loving and passionate about being in a relationship with His children:Roms 5:10-11 - "For since we were restored to friendship with God by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be delivered from eternal punishment by his life. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God - all because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done for us in making us friends of God." (NLT) Ex. 34:14 - "For he is a God who is passionate about his relationship with you." James 4:8 - "Draw close to God and God will draw close to you."

If you have friends who haven't experienced God on a personal, relational level, try using Click as a conversation starter for exploring who God is and what He's like. Here are some specific approaches you might consider:If you could somehow change the space-time continuum, would you want to have the ability to pause, fast-forward, or rewind events in your life? In Click the universal remote begins to develop its own 'agenda' and influence events. What do believe controls the events of your life? Do you? Does some higher power? Do you believe in God? What do you think He's like? Have you ever treated Him like a cosmic butler or giant vending machine in the sky? Did you realize He's not at all 'remote'? Share what the Bible has to say about God's passionate desire for a personal relationship with each of His children and His willingness to send His Son Jesus to make that possible.

Most people like to feel like they're in control. Without an understanding of the personal, just and loving God of the Bible who wants to draw His children into relationship with Him, the world can appear to be a scary, totally out-of-control place. As people grab hold of the Good News of God's love and forgiveness, the need to be in control of their own destiny recedes, while trust in God takes over. Help it happen in your world!

We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ and is commissioned to continue the ministry Jesus started. Those who are part of the local church are believers who have been baptized into the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are under scriptural delegated authorities, and assemble for praise, worship, ministry, and the preaching and teaching of the Word of God — Matthew 16:16-19;

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper - What We Believe 8

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience, symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his or her faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church sacrament, it is a prerequisite to the privilege of church membership. The Lord’s Supper is an act of obedience whereby member of the Body of Christ, through partaking of the bread and the wine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming. The presence of Christ is manifested spiritually in the gathering of the church and partaking of the Lord’s Supper — Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:29.
